We call them Zoomies. Zoomies are FRAPS, or Frenetic Random Activity Periods. These refer to those unmistakable explosions of energy that pups have every once in a while; some more than others :-). Zoomies often feature frantic, repetitive behavior such as running in circles or spinning around. A frequent cause of zoomies is an excess buildup of energy that dogs hold on to, which is then released in one big burst.
Certain times of day may trigger zoomies in dogs more than others. Your pup might "zoom" first thing in the morning, or maybe at night if their days don't involve a lot of activity. Some pups get Zoomies after a bath. Some dogs get Zoomies that are triggered by stress, like maybe a visit to the vet would cause.
Zoomies most often occur in puppies and younger dogs, but they can happen with dogs of all ages and breeds at times. They're a natural dog behavior that is most often no cause for alarm, so long as your pup has room to run without injuring themselves.
While Zoomies are mostly fun, if your fur-babe has constant Zoomies, it might be good to consult with your vet to make sure there isn't another problem or unnecessary anxiety.
Zoom away!!!
